Description

This course offers a presentation of the best literature available for children in a variety of media; books, short films, video, audio books and storytelling. Students study criteria for evaluating these books and ways of using them in early childhood, elementary and junior high classrooms. Methods of promoting family literacy are explored. The text is supplemented by bibliographies of Native American literature and Native American stories for children. Several approaches to reading will be reviewed and discussed.
Prerequisites: SPCM 103, ENGL 113, PSY 103
