Description
This course prepares students to assist students with disabilities to transition into post-secondary learning, the adult world or work and independent living. Collaboration with outside agencies and utilizing community resources to assist students in progressing toward their life-goals is a major component of the course. Students will gain the necessary knowledge to guide adolescents who have disabilities in gaining self-advocacy skills and actively participating in their won transition planning. Service learning will also be a component of this class. Graduate Nature of the Course: Students taking this course for graduate credit will complete all assignments required for undergraduate credit and complete a graduate level research project (15-page research paper or a 5-page reflective analysis of a field-based experience) related to successful transition from school to adult life and services.
