This course focuses on United States history up until the Civil War, while placing that nation within its international context. It begins with a look at some American Indian groups immediately before European contact and ends with the bloodiest war in U.S. History. This course examines not only traditional history - politics, diplomacy, and wars - but also social, cultural, economics, and demographic patterns, trends, and the everyday life of ordinary people.
