80-070 SERVICE AREA RESIDENCY (POLICY)
Service Area Residency policy 80-070 has been developed to address the offering of distance education courses and programs. Students will be required to travel to attend face-to-face, hybrid, or a combination of classes as determined by the academic departments at their own expense. Students must be aware that not all classes will be offered through distance learning, nor are all programs approved as distance learning delivery.
For admissions purposes, residence means the place where a person has a permanent home. The student is expected to maintain residency for the duration of the period of enrollment.
Residency in Oglala Lakota College’s service area can be demonstrated by completing one of the following processes when applying for admission:
1. Providing a valid South Dakota or Nebraska driver’s license or identification card verifying residency within the service area.
2. Providing a current tribal identification card verifying residency within the service area. We understand that the address listed on the card is not verified by tribal enrollment offices. Two additional forms of documentation will be required, which can include
a U.S. Postal mail addressed to a student (utility bills, cell phone bills, etc.), check stubs or another form of employment verification with address listed, verification of state benefits with address listed, or an award letter for state benefits with address listed
3. Or for students without address, including those who are homeless or are moving and in-transit, contact the nearest college center to fill out an Affidavit of Residency
